Why We Created This Store

Right now, somewhere in Morocco, a dog is curled up in the dust of a street she was born on. She has never had a name. She has never slept indoors. And if the reports coming out of the country are accurate, she may not have much time.

This is an emergency

As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, animal welfare organizations — including SPCA International and a coalition of more than a dozen international groups — are sounding the alarm: they report a dramatic rise in the mass culling of stray dogs across Moroccan cities. According to reporting by CNN, welfare organizations estimate that up to 1 million of Morocco's roughly 3 million street dogs could be killed before the opening match. The clock on this crisis is not abstract. It has a date: 2030.

The Moroccan government disputes these reports and says it runs a humane trap-neuter-vaccinate-release (TNVR) program. We hope that's the whole story. But we weren't willing to bet those dogs' lives on it.

Why us

We're a husband-and-wife team with roots in Morocco. The streets in those reports aren't foreign to us — they're the streets we grew up walking. The dogs in those videos look like the dogs we passed every day: patient, wary, hopeful anyway. When the news broke, we asked ourselves the question we'd ask you to sit with for a moment: if you could do something — anything — would you?

We couldn't build a shelter with our hands. So we built the next best thing: a store where every purchase becomes bricks, kibble, vaccines, and second chances.

What we believe

Cruelty is not a solution — and it isn't necessary. There is a proven, humane path: safe shelters where dogs can be housed instead of hunted. Sterilization and vaccination that shrink street populations gently, over time. Veterinary care for the sick and injured. And adoption — because a dog who has survived the street knows, better than any dog alive, what a warm home is worth.

A World Cup should be a celebration. It shouldn't cost a million lives. We believe Morocco can show the world a different way — and we want to help fund it.

What your purchase does

The Cool Companion sells thoughtfully designed supplies for dogs and cats. Profit from eligible purchases goes to our animal welfare fund, which exists for one purpose: supporting humane care for Morocco's street dogs — shelter construction, food and clean water, veterinary treatment, vaccination and sterilization programs, rescue, and adoption support. We publish how funds are allocated on our Impact & Transparency page, every quarter, with documentation.

No guilt. No tricks. Just this: your dog needs a leash anyway. Your cat will destroy another scratcher anyway. Buy them here, and the same money that spoils your best friend helps save a dog who's never had one.

The dogs can't wait — and you don't have to
